Bollitos de Plátano (Banana Muffins)
By Natalie Kane on May 22, 2015

A very easy way to incorporate Spanish at home is to cook in Spanish! These delicious & healthy sugarless muffins are made with wheat germ, & the recipe and steps are all in Spanish.

Wait, don't get intimidated!

The recipe & steps are all written out as a pictograph, so you'll know exactly what you are reading without having to refer to the translation.

If you're still scratching your head, the original recipe in English is included at the very end.

About this Blog
By Natalie Kane on May 22, 2015

In this section of our website, we will periodically post activities you can do in Spanish with your child.  These activities may be simple, every day chores, cooking recipes, or games that can help you incorporate Spanish into your daily life at home.

We recommend picking an activity and routinely do that activity in Spanish so that it simply becomes part of the activity.  Repetition also helps cement language!  For example, you can choose to set the table in Spanish every day!  This also gives you an opportunity to learn Spanish in little bits within very specific and practical contexts instead of getting overwhelmed with the idea of becoming completely fluent in order to then engage in a conversation with your child.  Once you become comfortable with doing one activity in Spanish, you can choose to add another activity.

How exactly will we be helping you?  We'll provide you a pictograph conversation for each activity we post.  This means  you'll be getting simple, but complete sentences accompanied by pictures to illustrate the meaning of key words in the phrase.  As opposed to flash cards,  full sentences give you an opportunity to use words together in a meaningful way.  All the activities will read as though you are speaking to your child, so doing the activity in Spanish could not be easier!

Have ideas or feedback?  Let us know!  We hope these tools are helpful to you and your family!  Enjoy!

"I am picking up Spanish much more quickly than I did in high school and college because of the teacher's movements and gestures with each song. They should teach Spanish this way to adults!! My daughter is really learning the songs as well...it is wonderful to hear her singing in Spanish."
