In Arte, children engage in hands on art activities that provide a context for learning Spanish. This parent and child class for younger children (2-4yrs) explores various materials, textures, and art techniques. We focus on giving children exposure to Spanish, and giving parents the language tools necessary to carry out simple art projects at home in Spanish.
Through modeling, and a visually rich context, Arte is taught entirely in Spanish. This means parents and children are learning language by simply participating in an immersive environment.
Parents are provided plenty of guidance, written support, pictographs and visual clues to help them carry out conversations in Spanish. As a parent, you don't have to know Spanish to enroll in this class, but we do encourage you to use this time to practice as much as possible!
This class meets once per week for an 1.5 hours in our outdoor area. We follow a very flexible format that allows children to go back and forth between playing and working on their art.
"I am picking up Spanish much more quickly than I did in high school and college because of the teacher's movements and gestures with each song. They should teach Spanish this way to adults!! My daughter is really learning the songs as well...it is wonderful to hear her singing in Spanish."
